DAY 30
10-19-09
EXODUS 38-39
Good Morning!
It troubles me to see the lack of respect for God’s commands by his own people. Now, to be honest, that includes me – a sinner saved by grace. We all disobey the Father. But, that is not what I’m referring to. There is a biblical principle that applies to the way we live; how we make judgments; how we worship; what we teach; and what we emphasize. The principle is following the Lord’s commands. God has continually stressed – from the instructions given to Adam and Eve; in the law given to Israel; and to Christians today; that if we follow his commands, we will be blessed.
Ten times in two these chapters we read that the craftsman built the articles of worship “as the Lord commanded Moses.” That can’t be understated since Moses stated it. They obeyed out of respect and a strong desire to live by the commands of God. God said to “build everything according to the pattern I will show you.” (Ex. 25:9 & 40) I know that verse can be over used; taken out of context by many; but it can’t be dismissed or ignored. The reason they obeyed God’s commands was because what they were making; and who they were as a people is “HOLY TO THE LORD.” (Ex.39:30) God’s holy people obey the words of God.
The result of carefully following the word of God was the blessing. “The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.” (Ex. 39:42-43)
Pattern theology – reasonable pattern theology – does not take away our freedom in Christ. It does not make us Pharisees or legalists. It shows God that we love him and respect him. I am liberated by following his word and living by his commands rather than the world and my own selfish desires. That is my goal. Living it out is my constant struggle.
