DAY 34
10-23-09
LEVITICUS 7-8
Good Morning!
Aaron and his sons are ceremonially purified by Moses – made holy for their holy work. Has it ever occurred to you just how bloody and filthy their work was? Day after day the blood sacrifices were made. Blood and guts were everywhere. They were covered with it.
Recall the care with which the beautiful priestly garments were made. They were made out of costly material. The garments were sanctified. As Aaron and his sons stand at the entrance, Moses sprinkles them with blood and oil; blood and oil all over those beautiful, clean, holy clothes!
In Hebrews 9:13, the author writes, “The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.” Clean? It was a bloody mess! But God is beginning the lesson that Christians can understand today - that we are cleansed and purified by blood. We are made holy by blood. And as hard as it is to visualize, when we are covered by the blood of Christ – the Lamb of God that takes away our sin – we are clean, pure, and beautiful.
We stand before God as priests ready to serve, covered with blood of the Lamb of God.
Barry
They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white. That is why they stand in front of God's throne and serve him day and night in his Temple. (Rev. 7:14-15)
