DAY 49
11-7-09
NUMBERS 12-13
Good Morning!
The scouts returned with the confirmation of what God already told them – the Promise Land was beautiful and bountiful. It was everything a nation could ask for. EXCEPT the majority of the scouts were too scared to take the land. Caleb, however, said, “Let’s go now!”
The lack of faith and the propensity to complain seems to be an Israelite national feature. Before the scouts were even sent, Miriam and Aaron complained about Moses and were disrespectful at very least; and were actually treasonous in their attitude.
God calls Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to the tent of meeting and dresses Aaron and Miriam down by confirming that Moses is God’s man – Israel’s only leader. Miriam pays the price and is punished with a week of leprosy.
Lack of faith; rebellious attitudes; and disrespect of God’s leaders is not only sinful; it holds us back from enjoying the blessings and plans God has for us. Some think that a rebellious spirit is cool and that “no one is the boss of me.” Well, God has a different view on that. God demands we respect our leaders. He demands that we trust and obey him. Sinful pride is the exact opposite of the attitude that God says he will bless – the attitude of HUMILITY. Moses was known as a humble man and leader. “Moses was very humble - more humble than any other person on earth.” (Num 12:3)
Put aside childish, sinful pride. Humble yourself before God. Obey the leaders God chooses.

"This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? (Exodus 10:3)
