Acknowledging and Honoring the Name of God

DAY 216
5-5-10
JEREMIAH 11-14

Good Morning!

Three times, God tells Jeremiah, “do not pray” for Israel and Judah. It shows just how angry and disappointed God is when his people ignore him; and do not acknowledge him.

Jer. 11:10 “They have returned to the sins of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them.”

The last few verses of chapter 14 remind me to pray and acknowledge just how awesome God is; what God does for me. (14:20-22 )

I need to acknowledge my sin. “O Lord, we acknowledge our wickedness and the guilt of our fathers; we have indeed sinned against you.”

I need to acknowledge God’s greatness. “For the sake of your name do not despise us; do not dishonor your glorious throne.”

I need to acknowledge I am in a covenant relationship with God. “Remember your covenant with us and do not break it.”

I need to acknowledge God takes care of me. “Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, O Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.”

God is not angry with his people just because they sin and struggle. All people do that. What upsets God is when he is ignored, dishonored, and unappreciated; and when his holy name is defiled.

In your life, worship, and prayers, give God the respect he deserves.

Barry
