The Lord Follows Through

DAY 229
5-18-10
LAMENTATIONS 1-2

Good Morning!

The Lamentations are the words of a grieving prophet (most likely Jeremiah); who did his best to warn God’s people to repent, but they wouldn’t. Now their punishment has come upon them. God used the Babylonians to judge his people.

Have you ever ignored a warning? Have you ever known what was right and decided not to do it? Unfortunately, human beings often choose to learn lessons the hard way. How sad!

Lam 2:17 The Lord has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago.

Nine times in Jeremiah’s prophecies, God said, “You did not listen.” Were they deaf? Did they not understand? Or did they choose not to listen and obey God’s warning?

At least one thing is very clear – God does not warn in vain. He is not like a parent who warns and doesn’t follow through; or who counts to three, and doesn’t do anything. God is patient, compassionate, and merciful. He desperately wants to bless us. But he also demands that his people obey him.

Better to listen and obey than to receive God’s punishment.
