Ok…these chapters are a challenge!

DAY 37
10-26-09
LEVITICUS 14-15

Good Morning!

God now gives his instructions on dealing with infectious diseases and discharges. Gross! Here goes.

My favorite thing to do – my passionate hobby – is motorcycle camping. I love long rides to beautiful places and camping out under the stars in middle of nowhere. I write this because I go to great lengths to stay reasonably clean and presentable. I’m not one of those bikers who will go for a week or two without changing clothes, bathing, and shaving. I may be a little wimpy, but who really likes to be unkempt and smelly? I don’t.

Now imagine a huge group of people – some say over two million – with all their belongings and huge flocks and herds of animals wandering and camping in the desert. Food and clean water is iffy. Sanitation must have been a nightmare. To be frank, waste must have been everywhere. Imagine the smell! Add to that the fires and smoke. Add again the sacrificial blood and guts. Simple human bodily functions would have been complicated and a challenge.

They were wide open to disease and death. So God gives them precise instructions on cleanliness and dealing with infectious diseases. God’s instructions on becoming ceremonially clean with the sacrifices and anointing were simply God’s way letting the Israelites know that God is in charge; he is involved; and holy people will follow his precise instructions in all things. He demands clean, holy people serve him. Spiritually and physically.

That’s all I have to say about discharges.

"A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." (John 13:10)
